This is how the ‘Covid hotels’ are for the quarantine of tourists: full board and account of the Generalitat

The negotiation of the Government of Spain with the Valencian Community to try to reopen international tourist corridors and reactivating priority markets has put on the table a series of requirements that the autonomous regions have to meet to justify their condition of safe destination: incidence data, possibility of carrying out tests at airports, forecast of arrival of visitors, traceability systems and, If all this fails an effective containment plan, and what happens by being able to isolate visitors who test positive for Covid-19 (or those people who have been in contact with them) as long as it takes.

In this sense, Valencian Community Tourism, the body that coordinates the Consell’s tourism policy, already set up a draft agreement last August, at the request of the main hotel and apartment associations, where the action regime is contemplated in designated establishments so that the “tourist patients” perform home isolation. Two establishments were chosen: the La Estación hotel in Benidorm (50 rooms), to serve the cases of the Costa Blanca, and the Cozy Rooms Bolseria residence hostel (20 rooms), in Valencia, which would welcome those affected by the two other provinces. The agreement has just expired, but Tourism sources assure that they are working on its renewal to include it in the negotiation of the corridors.

What protocol must be followed to activate it? In principle, the tourist establishments themselves have to notify If one of the following conditions are met: when they have a tourist who has been diagnosed with Covid-19 staying and their transfer can be made; for a client who has a contract to stay in that tourist accommodation and has been diagnosed with Covid-19 at the airports of the Valencian Community or at one of its ports; for accompanying persons caring for tourists diagnosed with coronavirus; and for direct contacts of a Covid case and that were also previously hosted or had a contract with or accommodation in the region.

The transfer of infected people, with symptoms or in contact with the patient, will be agreed and organized by the Department of Health “in accordance with its procedures, unless he or she has insurance that covers it, as well as , where appropriate, the specific protocols that the Department may establish and that should be applied “. Also, this program “There will be no cost for the accommodation that requests its use, nor for the tourist who has been transferred to the same, unless they had insurance that covered said service. “In that case, the insurance will have to pay the cost. In all other cases the Consell pays the entire stay, which may exceed the holiday period that you initially had hired.

Rooms and staff

The contract requires the establishment to have the agreed number of rooms and to keep them empty “for exclusive use when necessary by tourists who must perform home isolation “and have authorized the transfer by the Department of Universal Health and Public Health. The rooms will be for individual use,” unless two users expressly request in writing to be in the same room and the rules established for it were previously met “.

The daily cleaning of the room will be done “in accordance with the instructions given by the Health department”. You will need to have hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and a bottle of hydroalcoholic gel. The service will be full board, and the utensils used for meals will have to be disinfected. The personnel for these tasks will be determined by the establishment itself, and can even be outsourced, “in order to avoid additional costs when the service is not provided to guests and due to the variability of use that may occur “.
