‘This is how we dress’: Afghan women rebel against Taliban dress code

Afghan women showed their dissatisfaction with the dress code imposed by the Taliban, forcing them to wear a hiyab black from head to toe. With this outfit they try to make them invisible to society and the whole world.

To counteract this strict dress code, on Saturday September 25, Afghan women took to social networks under the hashtag #DoNotTouchMyClothes and shared photos of them wearing colorful and traditional Afghan outfits, making it clear that nothing and no one will tell them how to dress, feel or behave.

Although some consider this movement as one more that will be ignored by the Taliban, for Afghan women it is a historical fact, as they are making use of new technologies to achieve a goal and freedom.

In addition, her plan is already working, attracting the attention of mass media around the world, as well as feminist groups that join her fight.

It should be noted that #DoNotTouchMyClothes It was born by Bahar Jalali, historian and founder of the First Program for Gender Studies in Afghanistan and Women, who said that no woman should dress like this.

No woman has dressed like this in the history of Afghanistan. This is completely foreign and alien to Afghan culture. I posted my photo in traditional Afghan clothing to inform, educate and dispel misinformation spread by the Taliban.

The result has been a beautiful and inspiring collection of images, in which women reveal their colors, joys, dreams, hopes and strength.
