“This is not a bug, but a feature” – Google comments on massive complaints from Pixel 6 owners about the fingerprint scanner

Early adopters of the flagship Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones have reported issues when using the sub-screen fingerprint scanner. It works very slowly and doesn’t always recognize users the first time.

In-display fingerprint scanners are a relatively new addition to the smartphone industry, but they’ve recently become as fast as traditional fingerprint sensors on the back. However, Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro users are experiencing problems with this basic feature.

Unfortunately, Google’s official response to complaints did not please smartphone owners in any way. The search giant said that the fingerprint scanners in smartphones are working fine: exactly as intended. According to a Google spokesman, the Pixel 6 uses “improved security algorithms” for fingerprint verification. This, in turn, can cause delays or even errors in recognition. Google recommends making sure your fingers are clean, properly hydrated, and firmly pressed against the sensor.

Some users have switched to the outdated password entry method, ditching the fingerprint sensor and hoping for an update to be released. However, Google’s position is very clear: it does not see this situation as a problem.
