On social media, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), appears in front of a plane announcing that he is traveling to the municipality of Santa Maria (RS), where he will meet with president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who visits the site this Thursday (2). “This is not just a time for overflights, but for everyone to work together to save lives,” said Leite, in a video.
“Aircraft need to be focused on rescues. We need to combine all our efforts. It is a moment of coordination between the armed forces and the state of Rio Grande do Sul to rescue people, this is our focus at this moment”, he stated.
I am currently embarking for Santa Maria, where I will meet the president @LulaOficial. This is not just a time for overflights, but for everyone to work together to save lives. Aircraft need to be focused on rescues. We need to combine all our efforts.

In an interview with CNN This Wednesday (1), when asked about President Lula's visit to the state at a tragic time due to the rains, Eduardo Leite responded by saying that the head of the executive would be very welcome, but that the presence of an authority demands questions logistics.
“If the president came here at this moment, the entire structure that is in the field doing rescue work, part of it would have to be redirected to serve the President of the Republic. At this critical moment, what we need is all our forces on the field, rescuing people,” Leite told CNN on Wednesday.
