Weeks after the death of Queen Elizabeth II of England, Buckingham Palace announced the coronation date of King Charles III and Queen Camilla Parker.
The news has caused a stir among conservative groups, as it was expected that the coronation ceremony will take a few years to take place, this while the royal family was mourning the death of Elizabeth II. In other words, with this historic ceremony the period of mourning would end, giving way to a new mandate.
According to Buckingham Palace, the coronation of the monarch Charles III will take place on May 6, 2023, precisely on the fourth birthday of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the first-born of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The coronation will take place at Westminster Church in London, England. On this same date, Camilla Parker will be crowned queen consort, although her ceremony will be simpler.
Buckingham Palace also reported that the coronation ceremony will combine the old with the new. It will be “based on long-standing traditions” and “reflect the role of the monarch today and into the future.”
This will be the first coronation in almost 70 years, since the last one was carried out for Elizabeth II in June 1953 and lasted three hours.
Charles III will be crowned at the age of 74, the oldest age a monarch has had in the history of the United Kingdom. Your ceremony is expected to last one to two hours, have few attendees and receive the anointing, blessing and consecration from the Archbishop of Canterbury.
