Every time Keanu Reeves is caught by paparazzi, his face is serious, thoughtful, and sometimes sad. For this last reason, the “sad Keanu” meme emerged on social networks. For years we’ve wondered what happened at that point in the actor’s life to make him look like this, and finally host Stephen Colbert did us the great favor of asking him.
In the program The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host did not hesitate to make a comparison between the photo of “sad Keanu” with one of the pictures from the comic BRZRKR. When Keanu saw her, he was shocked and then began to explain the whole story behind the photograph.
What happened to Keanu that day?
Colbert presented the photo to the public to give him context for what he was talking about and also to once and for all ask the actor what he was doing that day that made him feel so sad. To the surprise of many, Keanu’s answer was very simple:
I was just eating a sandwich. I was thinking. He had a few things on his mind and he was just hungry.
However, the driver’s surprises did not end there. Then he discovered another part of the photograph which he compared with the painting of BRZRKR and he mentioned that the image had been created by Ron Garny, the person in charge of illustrating the comic written by Matt Kindt and Keanu himself.
By the way, the comic was created due to the affection that the actor feels for these stories, that is why he created a character that is basically inspired by his image and whom he called Berzerker, who is half mortal and half god, son of the god of war and who is “forced to violence, even at the cost of the sacrifice of his sanity.”
The actor has become a machine of involuntary memes and when Colbert asked him what this great ability was due to, the actor only limited himself to answering:
I have no idea, sir … really.
Maybe Keanu was just choking a little on his food because he didn’t have a drink around, but, well, people always take everything out of context. Anyway, he’s great at making memes and we hope they never end.
