Oppo showed off its first prototype of a foldable phone in early 2019, but has yet to announce a commercial device. Well-known insider Digital Chat Station reports that Oppo’s first foldable smartphone will be released in the second quarter of this year.
The source adds that the manufacturer is preparing two models at once with screens with a diagonal of 8 and 7 inches. In both cases, the display will be hidden inside the case. According to available information, the 7-inch model is close to mass production, so it should go to stores first.
Vivo is also working on a foldable phone that folds with the screen inward. It will get an 8-inch internal display and a 6.5-inch external display. At least one of the screens will support a high refresh rate. The screens will be supplied by Samsung.
Last week, Xiaomi introduced the flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mix Fold, which is equipped with a foldable screen. The device is now available for pre-order in China, with actual sales starting on April 16.
Last year, Oppo also showed off a prototype of the Oppo X 2021 sliding smartphone, but it is still unclear if such a device will go on sale.
