The Global Association of Telecom Operators and Equipment Manufacturers GSMA announced the exclusion of MegaFon from the number of participants, as reported by the Vedomosti publication. MegaFon joined this organization back in 1995 under the name ZAO North-West GSM.
GSMA is the largest international association of operators and equipment manufacturers, operating since 1995. The most important activity of GSMA is the development and definition of technical standards. For example, the association decides which technologies will form the basis of the next generation of mobile networks.

Vedomosti sent a request to the GSMA, but the reasons for the decision were never substantiated. “We are sincerely surprised by the selectivity of the decision of the international association, this step has no legal grounds, we are considering options for restoring our status,” a representative of Megafon.
However, none of the elements of our cooperation with the GSMA is irreplaceable and does not in any way affect the performance of our network or the convenience of our customers.
“Megaphone”
MTS, Beeline and Tele2 are still members of the GSMA.
