In May 2019, the Russian Helicopters holding presented a modernization program for the Ka-32A11M fire-fighting helicopter, which should receive new engines and a fire extinguishing system, as well as a glass cockpit. Now the state corporation Rostec, which includes the holding, announced that the modernized firefighter Ka-32 will be presented at the MAKS exhibition in July this year, and its deliveries will begin next year.
The new VK-2500PS-02 engines should give the helicopter more confidence and increase its carrying capacity to 1600 kg, and the glass cockpit will facilitate the work with additional equipment: navigation, optoelectronic and search equipment. It is also reported that the crew of the car will be able to work with night vision goggles.
As for the new SP-32 fire extinguishing system, its characteristics are ahead of foreign counterparts. So, for example, a tank, which is divided into 4 compartments, can hold 4 tons of water. The helicopter gains such a volume in just one minute in almost any body of water. System control is digital. It is possible to open the flaps in a different sequence, adjust the angle and increase the water discharge time. Moreover, for the first time, heating is used in the Ka-32 fire extinguishing system, which makes it possible to use water even at very low temperatures.

The Ka-32 was created on the basis of the Ka-27 shipborne anti-submarine helicopter, which at that time was distinguished by its advanced technical solutions. Several modifications have been developed, but since 2011, only a fire-fighting version has been produced. The Ka ‐ 32 became the first Russian helicopter to be internationally certified. Today they are used in Korea, China, Portugal, Spain, Japan and other countries.
