This year the Salone del Mobile is a Supersalone

It will open in the name of safety, design transversality andgreen commitment (they will, in fact, be 1.2 million kilograms of CO2 not released into the atmosphere thanks to the recovery of the fittings) the 2021 special event of Furniture expo.

They animate it over 423 brands and 50 independent designers, 170 projects from 48 international design schools, 20 of the most influential personalities of today’s creative landscape, 110 seats awarded by the Compasso d’Oro, six great chefs, five cinematographic works selected by the MDFF, 200 Forestami trees.

The Salone’s digital platform allows you to follow the events on a double track, physical and virtual. The works for the Supersalone continue unabated, faced by curator Stefano Boeri, by the international team of co-designers – Andrea Caputo, Maria Cristina Didero, Anniina Koivu, Lukas Wegwerth, Marco Ferrari and Elisa Pasqual of Studio Folder together with Giorgio Donà, co -founder and director of Stefano Boeri Interiors – and by all the staff of the Salone del Mobile.

«We are committed to organizing this Supersalone because we believe it is essential to return to meet, dialogue and discover the products that our companies have continued to create in these 18 months of pandemic. Never before in 2020 has the opportunity to have an overview of the direction of the entire sector been lacking and this event will allow you to discover the news and future perspectives “, comments Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano.

The protagonist is an increasingly innovative product, capable of responding adequately to the transformations of the contemporary social structure, to the consequent rapid change in the furniture market and to the individual needs of each customer. The recognition of the importance and symbolic value of this Supersalone is also confirmed by the presence of high government and institutional authorities, first of all the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on the day of the inauguration.

One of the special exhibitions of the Supersalone is The Lost Graduation Show, curated by Anniina Koivu, who will stage 170 projects by students who graduated between 2020 and 2021, from 48 design schools in 22 countries spread over five continents. A unicum in the history of the Salone that will involve all sectors of furniture design, but not only. Forays into the world of mobility, of inclusive, medical and sports design, of research on materials and project sustainability they will tell the state of the art of an entire sector.

Another important exhibition will be Take Your Seat / Take a position – Solitude and Conviviality of the Chair / Solitude and conviviality of the chair, curated by Nina Bassoli, in collaboration with ADI / Compasso d’Oro Award. With 30 chairs awarded the Compasso d’Oro Award and more than 80 honorable mentions, distributed in the four pavilions of the Supersalone, the exhibition will be the story of the most iconic design object, the chair in fact, able to summarize the value of good planning more than any other artifact.

Curated by Maria Cristina Didero, the Supersalone program will be full of conversations, talks, lectures by designers, architects, artists, scholars and managers from all over the world. The protagonists will try to answer various questions concerning design, art, architecture, education, circular economy, environmental impact, the relationship between project and curatorship and much more in a series of dialogues or of one man show appointments. Many illustrious names: da Humberto Campana to Bjarke Ingels, from Carsten Höller to Paola Pivi, from Beatriz Colomina to Cecilia Alemani, from Formafantasma to Philippe Malouin.

As per established tradition, even on the occasion of this special September event, the Salone del Mobile will go beyond the confines of the Rho Fair to underline and enhance the deep bond with Milan and, in the spirit of an ever greater openness to the exchange and circulation of ideas , culture and creativity, will renew the dialogue with Triennale Milano, the city hub of the Supersalone. In this scenario, the mix between digital and physical presence will guarantee a highly engaging experience and will allow those who cannot be present to view the products on display, virtually visit the exhibitions, attend talks and lectures.

Supersalone is this and much more: a special project thanks to which the Salone del Mobile wants to be the promoter and catalyst of actions, thoughts, feelings that allow the entire sector and the entire supply chain to restart with optimism, giving life to a new Renaissance.

The Supersalone awaits you from 5 to 10 September at Fiera Milano, Rho from 10 to 19 (Friday: 10am – 4pm). Tickets can only be purchased online, in advance at a cost of 15 euros.
