The performance of airports in 2021

Last year, 12.6 million international air arrivals were recorded compared to 21.5 million in the period January-December 2019, showing a decrease of -41.2% / – 8.9 million arrivals. In the first quarter of 2021, international air arrivals fell sharply, as did the second. The third quarter saw a significant improvement, as in July the recovery rate improved significantly to -27.4% / – 1.1 million while 2.8 were recorded. million international arrivals. In August, for the first time in 2021, more than 3 million international air arrivals were recorded, with the recovery rate amounting to -20.9% or -802 thousand arrivals. In September, the recovery rate slowed to -23.4% / -717 thousand while 2.3 million international air arrivals were recorded. The fourth quarter started with the traffic reaching the levels of 2019.

Between January and December 2021, three airports recorded a decrease of more than 1 million international air arrivals. Specifically, 3.8 million international air arrivals were recorded at Athens International Airports, showing a decrease of -2.6 million / -40.9%. It was followed by Heraklion airport where 2.1 million international air arrivals were recorded, showing a decrease of -1.2 million/- 35.0%. At the airport of Rhodes were recorded 1.4 million international air arrivals showing a decrease of -943 thousand / 40-% while at the airport of Thessaloniki were recorded 1.1 million international air arrivals showing a decrease of -1.3 million / 53 , 5%. The fullness in the hotels

According to data from the Hotel Chamber of Greece, which has commissioned ITEP to conduct research exclusively for hotels in continuous operation, to capture the basic parameters of average price and occupancy in this part of the hotel industry, in the quarter from December 1, 2021 to On February 28, 2022, which is also the highest period in terms of traffic for the hotels of the mountain mass, 79.3% of the hotels were open, while 1 in 5 did not work, choosing to remain closed.

The average occupancy rate in open hotels was 28.2%, which with the reduction of all hotels in continuous operation, becomes 21.3%.

Greek hotels during this quarter operated with an average occupancy of 28.2% and an average double room price of 48 euros.
