Thomas More Institute: Frontex chief resigns over silent war

The resignation of Frontex General Manager Fabrice Lazeri is the culmination of a silent battle, being waged behind the scenes of the European institutions, over the Frontex mission and, more generally, about the meaning to be given to European immigration policy.

This is the view expressed in an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro by Jean-Thomas Lesouer, director general of the Thomas More Institute, well known in France, noting that on the one hand it was Lazeri and the Frontex their mandate was to guard the common borders and on the other hand the Commissioner for Home Affairs Ilva Johansson who aligned herself with the NGOs who would like to somehow turn Frontex into a monitoring service for the respect of the fundamental rights of migrants by the Member States .

Regarding the fire that Leszeri has been receiving from the European Parliament and the Commission for two years, some NGOs and media for illegal repulsions in the Aegean Sea, contrary to EU law and international law, Lesouer points out the denial of these accusations, stressing that investigations by various European bodies have either concluded that there was no such repatriation or have downgraded Frontex’s involvement. As he points out, the accusations are led by NGOs no-borders and the media (mainly German, like Der Spiegel again very recently) – “complacently supplied by Turkey with testimonies or aggressive satellite images”.

As for the reduction of the subsidy to Frontex to 1 billion euros from 1.8 billion euros, he estimates that “this is another front of the battle”, noting that after the migration wave of 2015-2016, one would believe or hope that European leaders would finally take the issue seriously and understand what it has to do with declining European societies, which are challenging their model and which have already embraced mass migration for five decades, which did not happen.
