Thorchain protocol was down for 20 hours

The protocol for cross-chain trading of cryptoassets Thorchain was out of service for 20 hours – a software error led to the shutdown of the network, but the validators were able to restore the operation of the protocol.

The restoration of the operation of the main protocol network took place on Sunday night. At the same time, there were quite a lot of transactions in the pool, so the developers disabled the ability to trade assets before the queue was cleared:

“Thorchain is back up and running and producing blocks. The network signs the transactions, so pending transactions should start executing. Once the queue is cleared, trading will resume. Estimated time is 2-3 hours.

Thorchain network validators lost consensus after encountering a “unique transaction type” error that caused the connection between nodes to be lost. Accordingly, the transactions were not signed and the shutdown lasted 20 hours.

At the same time, investors’ funds remained safe. Some cryptocurrency exchanges have suspended deposits and withdrawals of their own cryptocurrency Thorchain RUNE during the network outage.

Shortly after the error appeared, the protocol developers released a patch and instructions for updating the software. After updating the nodes, the validators were able to resume the network.

Recall that last year Thorchain was hacked twice in one week. The project lost over $15 million.
