The National Council of Justice (CNJ) launched this Tuesday (2) a campaign in partnership with the Ministry of Health to facilitate organ donation in Brazil. From now on, anyone who wishes to be a donor can register their wishes online. Click here to see the step by step.
The “One Heart: be life in someone’s life” campaign also marks the regulation of the Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation (Aedo) system. Currently, more than 42 thousand people are waiting in line for an organ transplant, according to the CNJ.
Authorization for donation in case of brain death will continue to be made by the patient's family, but the initiative aims to make the intention to donate more transparent to speed up the process. Now, anyone who wants to be an organ donor can express and formalize their wishes through an official document, made digitally at any of the 8,344 Notary Offices in Brazil.
According to the CNJ, the measure ensures that family members and the health system are aware of the decision, facilitating the process of organ donation and transplantation.
“The provision that regulates the organ donation procedure ensured the importance of all citizens having free access to a safe mechanism that encourages and brings together the largest number of organ and tissue donors with the aim of respecting the declaration of will of the donor,” said the National Inspector of Justice, Minister Luis Felipe Salomão.
Streamlining processes
Through the National Organ Donor Center, it will be possible to consult authorization using the deceased's CPF by those responsible for the National Transplant System, linked to the Ministry of Health.
The process allows the interested party to fill out a form in the e-Notary system and schedule a video conference with a notary to collect their expression of will. After the digital signature, Aedo will be available for consultation by those responsible for the National Transplant System.
