Those Sicilian lemons that are good for health (and for scientific research)

There is time until February 28 to help finance the work of doctors and researchers who dedicate their lives to excellent scientific research. To do this, simply buy one or more packs of primofiore Sicilian lemons (they are called this because they are obtained from the first flowering of the plants) sold in special 500 gram nets and distributed throughout Italy in supermarkets, hypermarkets and discount stores that adhere to the initiative. For each retina, sold at the cost of 2 euro, 40 cents will be donated to the Umberto Veronesi Foundation to finance research projects.

«Our enthusiasm for the initiative Lemons for research it grows every year and has become a special fixture on our calendar, ”he says Marianna Palella, CEO and Founder of Citrus l’Orto Italiano, a company in the fruit and vegetable sector strongly committed to environmental and social sustainability. «Attention to people and the environment has always guided our work. Our lemons, not treated on the surface, are subjected to dozens of analyzes every year to guarantee their high quality and safety standards and, together with our suppliers, we develop ethical and environmentally friendly and worker-friendly supply chains, guaranteeing the right remuneration at the production base. The commitment of our team in this special project is a healthy way to feel part of a whole that everyone thinks about ».
The Romagna company is also strongly at the forefront to underline the importance of supporting scientific research.
«Never before has it been essential to support scientific research and thanks to the invaluable and renewed support of Citrus l’Orto Italiano, an innovative company alongside our Foundation for years, it will be possible to finance the annual work of numerous excellent researchers. We are aware that after this Covid-19 health emergency there will be a lot to do to continue to fight diseases that still threaten the lives of thousands of people today “- he says Monica Ramaioli, General Manager of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation.

“I have always thought that supporting scientific research is an act of love, for the patients of today and tomorrow,” he says Marco Bianchi, food mentor and scientific popularizer for the Umberto Veronesi Foundation and testimonial of today’s edition of Lemons for research. “For this reason I have decided to be testimonial of this important project, which will allow, with a small big gesture, to finance numerous researchers who are committed every day to improve the health of all of us”.
