Floods are threatening the Kurgan region of southern Russia, putting the lives of more than 19,000 people at risk, the state news agency reported today, days after unprecedented flooding displaced thousands of people in the Urals region. Citing the local branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, the TASS news agency reported that at least 4,000 homes may also be affected, while emergency measures have been taken in the region. Flooding, the worst in decades, has hit a number of Russian regions in the Urals and Siberia in recent days, as well as parts of neighboring Kazakhstan, after Europe's third-largest river broke a dam.
