Thousands of Brazilians took to the streets on Saturday to demonstrate against a bill being advanced in the country’s conservative Congress, which, if passed, would equate abortion after the 22nd week of pregnancy to homicide and establish penalties of between 6 and 20 years in prison. Carrying banners and placards bearing slogans against the draft law, crowds of women and men marched down Paulista’s main avenue in Sao Paulo, denouncing the proposal to impose the most regressive and repressive measures on women’s reproductive rights in decades.
