Three capitals break heat records and two others could get there by the weekend; know which ones

Three Brazilian capitals broke their own heat records this September, and two others could break the mark by the end of the week, when the heat wave is expected to reach its peak in the country, according to Climatempo.

They were:

  • Campo Grande (MS), with 36ºC on Wednesday (20) – Inmet;
  • Goiânia (GO), with 38.3ºC – Inmet;
  • Boa Vista (RR), with 40.6ºC – Inmet.

Record temperature Large field it was 35.2ºC in 2023, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). Until Sunday (24), the capital of Mato Grosso do Sul could reach 39ºC.

Already in Goiânia , the previous highest record for 2023 was 37.7ºC on September 13th. The absolute record (since 1937), however, was 41.2ºC, recorded in October 2020. Inmet indicates that, by Sunday, the mark could be surpassed. But he did not make exact predictions.

Boa Vista had a previous record of 40.1ºC between September 9 and 15 this year. This month, the city reached 40ºC three times, according to Inmet.

Other predicted records:

  • Curitiba (PR) could reach 35°C until Sunday (absolute record is 35.5°C, in October 2020);
  • São Paulo (SP) can reach 38°C (absolute record is 37.8°C, in October 2014, and the historical record for September is 37.1°C in September 2020).

  • Rio de Janeiro (RJ): up to 41°C;
  • Belo Horizonte (MG): up to 36°C;
  • Vitória (ES): up to 36°C;
  • Cuiabá (MT): up to 43°C;
  • Goiânia (GO): up to 38°C;
  • Brasília (DF): up to 34°C;
  • Palmas (TO): up to 40°C;
  • Teresina (PI): up to 40°C.
