Czech Republic: In the village of Hraski it is estimated that one third of the houses were destroyed
In the village of Chraski, which has a population of 1,600, a deputy mayor estimated that a third of the houses had been destroyed and much needed to be inspected before the residents could return.
“The church has no roof, no bell tower, cars were hurled into the yards of houses, people had nowhere to hide. “The village from the church and below has virtually disappeared,” Marek Babic told the iDNES news website.
Authorities said the tornado destroyed thousands of homes and urged residents not to drive to the affected areas so that rescue teams could work ahead and send donations.
More than 100 residents of a Hodgkin nursing home had to be evacuated.
Prime Minister Andrei Babis interrupted his visit to Brussels, where he was attending the European Council Summit, and returned to his country to visit the affected area.
