Three women have succumbed to their injuries after an arson attack on a property in Buenos Aires that the LGBTI+ community has described as a “hate crime” targeting gays. The third victim, 43 years old, died on Sunday morning, the health authorities and the LGBTI+ Federation of Argentina said. The first woman, 52 years old, succumbed immediately after the arson and the second, the same age, last Wednesday, after the arson that took place on the night of last Sunday to Monday (May 6) in the Barakas district, in a conventillo, a type of boarding house where multiple households live in, often renting just one room. A 62-year-old man who has lived in the building for years, for an as yet unknown reason, hurled an improvised incendiary device – the authorities consider it practically certain that it was a Molotov cocktail – against the room where a lesbian couple lived and a third party was staying.
