Three Palestinians, including a high-ranking Fatah commander, were killed and dozens wounded in an Israeli military raid on Nablus in the occupied West Bank today, two days after the end of a deadly Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, three Palestinians were killed during the operation that took place in the center of Nablus, during which fire was exchanged between Palestinian activists and Israeli forces.
The Israeli military, for its part, said two Palestinians were killed: Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, a high-ranking official of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah group, and another fighter.
The body of Ibrahim al-Nabulsi was carried by ten armed Palestinians to Rafidiya Hospital in Nablus, where hundreds of Palestinians gathered.
The Israeli security services (police, army and internal intelligence) announced that they had raided a residence in which Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, whom the Israeli authorities consider a suspect in a series of anti-Israeli attacks, was located.
Israeli police said a rocket was fired at the residence.
“Fierce clashes took place with rioters, who threw stones and explosives at the (Israeli) forces, who responded by opening fire. There were injuries (Palestinians). The forces withdrew from the city and there are no casualties among our ranks,” it said in a statement. the army.
An AFP photographer on the ground spoke of heavy fighting in the old city of Nablus, located in the northern part of the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 40 Palestinians were also injured, four of them critically, during clashes linked to the Israeli operation.
The Nablus raid came two days after the end of a deadly Israeli military operation launched in the Gaza Strip against the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad.
