Three Key Employees Leave OpenAI

OpenAI CTO Mira Murati has announced that she is leaving the company to pursue her own research.

“After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to leave OpenAI. There is never a perfect time to leave a place you cherish, but now feels right. My six and a half years on the team have been an incredible privilege,” Murati wrote.

The startup’s CEO Sam Altman thanked her for helping the company achieve its goals and for her support.

Hours after Murati’s announcement, it was announced that Chief Scientist Bob McGrew and Vice President for Research Barrett Zof had resigned. Altman statedthat this decision was made by them by mutual consent and independently of each other.

Mark Chen has been promoted to vice president of research, and Jakub Paczki will replace McGrew.

In August, OpenAI co-founder John Schulman left to join rival AI startup Anthropic, and President Greg Brockman took an extended leave of absence until the end of the year.

The management changes come amid talks to raise new investment at a valuation of $150 billion.

Altman planned to change the startup’s corporate structure to attract funds.
