Three killed in US shipwreck with immigrants, charges against captain

A boat with migrants sank on Sunday at USA, resulting in three people losing their lives and another 29 injured.

These were immigrants trying to enter the United States illegally from Mexico.

A federal court has indicted the captain.

According to documents filed in San Diego court in southern California, Antonio Hurtado, an American citizen, was the captain of a 12-meter fishing boat that sank, forcing its passengers to jump into the sea to escape.

He is accused of trying to pass illegally Immigrants on US soil and that he attacked a federal agent during his arrest, as broadcast by AMPE.

Two men aged 29 and 35 and a 41-year-old woman, all three Mexicans, drowned in the wreck. THE Hourtado and the other 29 passengers of the fishing boat were taken to hospital, where two of them remain.

According to court documents, the migrants on the fishing boat had paid $ 15,000 to $ 18,500 to cross into the United States and said Hurtado was the ship’s captain.

“Traffickers do not care about the people they exploit. All they care about is profit. “Security equipment was inadequate and the ship apparently carried more people than allowed,” said Jeffrey Stevenson, a spokesman for the U.S. Border Patrol.

There is a large increase in the number of illegal immigrants trying to enter the country from Mexico. There were 172,000 arrests in March, the largest number in 15 years.
