Three out of four private hospitals in SP recorded an increase in hospitalizations due to Covid-19 in the last 15 days

There was an increase in hospitalizations of patients due to Covid-19 in 76% of private hospitals in the state of São Paulo, according to a survey by the Union of Hospitals, Clinics and Laboratories of the State of São Paulo (SindHosp).

The number of hospitalizations grew by 5% in most hospitals. This same level of increase was also seen in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, but reaching 92% of hospitals.

The survey was carried out from October 10th to 19th, with 81 private hospitals in São Paulo, 49% in the capital and Greater São Paulo and 51% in the interior.

SindHosp numbers also show that 84% of units registered an increase in suspected cases of Covid-19 in emergency care in the last 15 days.

When patients are tested, however, 68% report that the increase in cases of the disease is between 11% and 20% in emergency care.

Free beds

According to data from the São Paulo State Department of Health, 70.8% of ICU beds are free in the state. In the metropolitan region, the number drops to 61.9%.

“It is necessary for the population to complete the vaccination schedule with the bivalent vaccine and be careful about wearing a mask in environments with a high concentration of people, such as public transport”, says doctor Francisco Balestrin, president of SindHosp.

In the state, practically a quarter of people (22.47%) are immunized with the bivalent vaccine. In the country, this percentage is lower, 16.74%, according to the Ministry of Health.
