Avalanche swept away ten skiers near the community of Invermere, in the Canadian province of British Columbia, killing three and injuring four.
The skiers who were swept away were “foreign nationals,” according to the Canadian police statement, without elaborating.
The Canadian network Global News reports that the skiers who were killed are German, citing Walter Bauer, mayor of the city of Egging in Bavaria.
The avalanche occurred in the area of the Panorama ski resort, about 160 kilometers west of Calgary. A spokesperson for the company told CBC that the avalanche occurred outside the boundaries of the ski resort, adding that the lifts were temporarily suspended to facilitate access by helicopter rescuers.
In January, two Americans were killed by an avalanche in the same area.
