Three children and three grandchildren of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh were reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip, according to local media reports.
A vehicle carrying family members of Haniyeh, head of Hamas's political office, was reportedly shot at near Al Shati, northwest of Gaza City.
A doctor at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City told a reporter from CNN that three dead adults and three dead children were taken to hospital.
Haniyeh said he was aware of reports that members of his family had been killed. “I received news that the enemy hit a car with my children. And they became martyrs,” he told Al Jazeera.
“They were martyred in Al Shati refugee camp,” Haniyeh continued.
The Hamas leader said that “targeting leaders’ homes and families” would only increase Hamas’ resolve. “Anyone who thinks that by targeting my children during negotiations and before a deal is reached will force Hamas to back down on its demands is delusional,” Haniyeh added.
