Tiago Abravanel says he wouldn’t play Tim Maia nowadays; watch

At À Prioli, actor, singer, presenter and businessman Tiago Abravanel told Gabriela Prioli that playing Tim Maia in musical theater was a watershed in his career, but that he could no longer do it today. “For occupying the space of a black actor,” he explains. “This is a space that still needs to be observed and contested, so that people have opportunities. If opportunities were equal for everyone, maybe this wouldn’t be an issue.”

Tiago also opened up about his relationship with his grandfather, Silvio Santos, who is not as close as people imagine. “My grandfather doesn’t throw a little plane for his birthday. That’s not how the story works, and it’s very delicate,” he says. According to the singer, much for the busy life that the two lead, but also for the family structure, since Tiago’s mother was the result of Silvio Santos’ first marriage and there was no closeness during her growth.
