Tianma Shows Three Micro-LED Display Prototypes

Tianma, which recently announced the launch of a 6th generation flexible AMOLED production line project, demonstrated micro-LED prototypes at SID Displayweek 2021 this week.

The first was a 7.56-inch, 720 x 480-pixel, flexible micro-LED display developed in collaboration with PlayNitride. The display with an LTPS control board has a density of 114 ppi and a brightness of over 600 cd / m2. It can be bent along a radius of 50 mm.

The second prototype is a so-called “tiled” display, consisting of two “tiles”, each of which has a diagonal of 5.04 inches and a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. They are made using LTPS technology and are also characterized by a density of 114 pixels per inch. In this case, PlayNitride was also Tianma’s partner. The gap between the tiles is less than 0.03mm, but upon closer inspection, it is visible as a black line.

The third prototype is interesting in that a transparent micro-LED display is placed on top of an electrophoretic display. The LTPS micro-LED display, developed with PlayNitride, measures 7.65 inches and has a resolution of 480 x 720 pixels (114 ppi). An electrophoretic display with a size of 5.84 inches and a resolution of 648 x 480 (density – 138 ppi) created in collaboration with WeiFeng.
