The company Tiffany & Co. has just released its newest item, and the most expensive of all time.
“The World Fair Necklace”, presented in Dubai last Sunday (21), features an impressive 180 carats of diamonds set in platinum. Its centerpiece is a flawless 80-carat oval diamond, color D (highest grade and colorless) called “Empire Diamond”, in honor of the jeweler’s hometown.
The “Empire Diamond” was found in Botswana, Africa, cut and polished in Israel, and assembled in Tiffany’s New York City store.
Tiffany said the necklace is the most expensive piece ever created.
The good news for jewelry lovers – and stuffed pockets – is that this necklace is available for sale – as opposed to the famous 128.54 carat “Tiffany Diamond”, which the company says is priceless and cannot be purchased.
The luxury retailer has yet to set a price for the necklace, but industry experts estimate its value to be between $20 million and $30 million.
Tiffany’s diamond jewelry has been famous for adorning celebrities over the decades, from Audrey Hepburn to Beyoncé Knowles. The singer made fashion history as the first black woman to wear the iconic 128.54 carat Tiffany diamond in the new “About Love” campaign.
The retailer claims that the design of “The World Fair Necklace” is inspired by a Tiffany necklace made for the 1939 World’s Fair held at Flushing Meadow-Corona Park, located in New York. This design featured a 200-carat aquamarine stone and more than 400 diamonds.
The necklace can be used in an unexpected way: the customer can take the diamond and mount it on a platinum ring, with the help of a Tiffany jeweler who will be on call whenever the service is needed – naturally.
