TikTok announces suspension of live streams in Russia

TikTok – a platform focused on publishing short videos, especially humorous – announced this Sunday the suspension of live broadcasts in Russia, referring the decision to the country’s new fake news law.

“We have no choice but to suspend live streaming and new content on our video service while we review the security implications of this law.” The app’s messaging service will not be affected.

“We will continue to assess evolving circumstances in Russia to determine when we can fully resume our services with security as our top priority.”

The network had previously blocked Russian-backed channels such as RT and Sputnik in the European Union.

On Monday, the Russian media regulator demanded that the network stop recommending content related to the military operation in Ukraine to underage users, saying much of the material was anti-Russian.
