After Chinese children were banned from playing online games for more than three hours a week, there was another severe restriction for some of them.
The ByteDance company, which owns the popular social network TikTok, announced that youth mode is automatically activated for all users of the platform under the age of 14, which allows you to use the Douyin app (Chinese version of TikTok) for only 40 minutes a day. There is also a limitation that does not allow using the platform from 22:00 to 6:00.
Let’s clarify: in China there is no TikTok, and the Douyin application is just the progenitor of the platform known throughout the world. Initially, ByteDance created Douyin, and then released this social network to the global market under the name TikTok.
Interestingly, the restriction only works for users who indicated their real name and age, so the developers ask parents to add this information to their children’s accounts.
True, as a result, the restrictions will affect a relatively small part of the Douyin audience, since children under 12 years old make up only 0.34% of all users, and children aged 13 to 19 years old – 4.18%.
In addition, ByteDance has launched a special Douyin / TikTok kids’ variant called Xiao Qu Xing. There is mainly educational content and no video posting option.
