Bye! I am Marilù Casini, a researcher in the biomedical field. During the day I work in the laboratory with cells and in the evening I enjoy making scientific videos for dissemination on various social networks, including TikTok!
2- How do you express your creativity on TikTok?
What I like most is to show people the life of the researcher and explain curiosities about science, also answering all the questions that the public asks me. My style also represents who I am, a cheerful person who likes to entertain. So my motto is “Who said science can’t be fun?”
3- What video did you most enjoy making?
The videos I like most are the ones where I show the path that led me to here. From high school, passing through the degree and internship in Germany and then end up doing a PhD abroad around theEurope and to communicate science. I like them because I am moved to see all the path I have made and how I grew up, but above all because I think they can inspire young people to understand that everyone can do it and that science is accessible to anyone.

4- What are your favorite effects?
For my scientific explanations, the green screen is fundamental, I dare to say. Above all, being able to show a video behind me while I explain is super useful for capturing people’s attention and for better passing concepts.
5- Music: Italian or foreign?
Precisely because I always speak in my videos, I very often choose foreign music without words.
6- What do you watch on TikTok: do you have favorite accounts?
Sure I have them! Among the scientific ones @ idea.soup which has a style very similar to mine, among the unscientific ones @zozoroe and @otakoyakisoba that raise awareness on LGBTQ + issues in a unique way. Among the Italians one of my absolute favorites is @sillysissi_in_the_sky, he has a unique comedy, I laugh to tears every time.

7- Can you give me some advice for making cool videos?
Give people something unique that, without you, they wouldn’t have a chance to see. Entertain and be yourself.
8- Where do you get inspiration for your videos from?
It is people who inspire me with their questions.
9- One thing they don’t know about you?
I love taking care of plants. I have an avocado that I carry with me in every country I move to, so far it has toured Italy, Germany and Spain with me.

Being able to work as a science communicator both in Italy and internationally.
