TikTok has restricted work in Russia due to the “fake law”. Now you can not live stream and upload new videos

The Tik Tok service has temporarily suspended the creation of new content in Russia, as well as live broadcasts. This was done in connection with the “law on fakes” adopted the day before, which provides for criminal liability for “fakes” about the actions of Russian military personnel, as well as for calls for sanctions.

In light of Russia’s new “fake news” law, we have no choice but to suspend live streaming and new content creation for our video service while we study the security implications of this law. Our in-app messaging service will not be affected,” the Tik Tok Twitter post read.

The “Law on fakes” was adopted in Russia in record time: in one day it was approved by the State Duma and the Federation Council, and also signed by Vladimir Putin. For spreading knowingly false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation under the guise of reliable messages, a fine of 700 thousand to 1.5 million rubles is provided, the maximum punishment, if knowingly false information entailed serious consequences, is up to 15 years in prison.

Recall also that last week Roskomnadzor accused TikTok of removing content published by RIA Novosti from its platform. The department noted that “such actions of the administration of the social network TikTok violate the key principles of the free flow of information and unhindered access to it“. In total, Roskomnadzor counted 7 facts of discrimination against official accounts of Russian media and public figures on TikTok since May last year.
