Tiktok invests 1 billion euros to build a data center in Finland

The Chinese Tiktok video sharing application today announced that it would invest 1 billion euros in the construction of a data center in Finland, a few days after its European Commission has imposed a heavy fine on the transfer of Europeans’ personal data to China. The company owned by the Chinese BYTEDANCE Group, stressed that this data center is an “important step” to comply with its commitment to data security in Europe. Last week, the EU imposed a fine of 530m euros on Tiktok, on charges of sending personal data to European citizens to China and does not guarantee that Chinese authorities will not have access to them. Tiktok implied that it would appeal to the decision.
