TikTok tests PC game streaming to compete with Twitch

TikTok is testing a new computer software called TikTok Live Studio that will allow users to stream games and other applications. According to the developers, this program is being tested by a limited number of users in some markets. Initially, it could be downloaded from the official TikTok website, but later the company closed access to the page.

TikTok Live Studio may change the strategy of TikTok live streaming. Rather than targeting exclusively users who broadcast from mobile devices, TikTok can broaden its focus by adding game-streaming capabilities. This will lead to competition from services such as Twitch, YouTube Gaming and Facebook Gaming.

According to Zach Bussey, who shared screenshots of the app on Twitter, TikTok Live Studio is currently in its very early stages of development. But the software already supports streaming in both landscape and portrait orientations and can stream selected footage from games, apps, mobile devices and cameras.

It used to be possible to start live TikTok broadcasts from a computer using third-party software like Streamlabs, but its help notes that access is limited and available by invitation only. There are other workarounds, but they are not ideal. It’s unclear when TikTok will be able to expand Live Studio testing to more users. But when such an opportunity becomes available to many, it will definitely make the platform’s content even more diverse.
