Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, officially accepted the nomination to run for vice president of the United States for the Democratic Party this Wednesday (21), during the party’s National Convention.
“It is the honor of my life to accept your nomination for vice president of the United States,” Walz said.
He also thanked Kamala Harris for inviting him to the ticket and thanked President Joe Biden for “four years of strong and historic leadership.”
Walz was introduced with a video narrated by Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz.
The video featured Gwen Walz telling the story of her husband’s life starting in Nebraska and enlisting in the Army National Guard.
Gwen Walz and her children, who were in attendance at the convention, were thrilled to see the governor take the stage.
Walz’s name had been confirmed by Democrats on the first day of the event, on Monday (19).
At 60, he is a military veteran, former high school teacher, football coach and is serving his second term as governor of Minnesota.
In addition, he chairs the Democratic Governors Association – an organization that brings together state and regional Democratic authorities.
Walz previously served 12 years in Congress, representing a rural, conservative-leaning district that, both before and after his tenure, was overwhelmingly Republican-dominated.
