Tim Walz Highlights Kamala’s Improvements on Climate Issues While Criticizing Trump

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz acknowledged that Ohio Senator JD Vance had already noted the existence of a climate problem, but cited former President Donald Trump’s reference to the issue as “a hoax.”

“What we’ve seen from the Biden-Harris Administration now is we’ve seen that investment. We saw massive investments,” said Walz during this Tuesday’s (1st) debate on climate change.

He said he has spoken to farmers who “know climate change is real” and who have experienced Kamala’s improvements.

The Democrat stated that Trump has said in the past that the climate crisis is a “hoax” and that the current government is investing heavily in this issue and in American workers.

“The solution is to keep moving forward and I understand that the climate crisis is real. Reducing our impact is absolutely critical, but this is not a ‘false choice’. You can do this while creating jobs,” he noted.

Then, JD Vance commented that if there are investments in solar panels made in China, the economy will become “dirtier”.

Walz referenced Trump’s comments in 2016 when he claimed that “nobody really knows” whether climate change is real. At the time, during the election campaign, the former US president called climate change a “hoax” being promoted by China.

Later in 2018, Trump clarified in an interview that he does not believe climate change is a hoax — but added that “it will change again.”

Historical debate

The event marks the first and only confirmed debate between JD Vance, Donald Trump’s candidate, and Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ candidate, while polls show a tight scenario in the 2024 race for the White House.

The confrontation will last 90 minutes and will not feature opening speeches or an in-studio audience. See all the rules through this article.
