Behind Tina Turner’s iconic hair look were some gorgeous wigs

Tina Turner fans know that her hairdo – very thick, voluminous, backcombed, caramel blonde – was a distinctive part of the look of the rock star when he took the stage. TO PeopleWayne Lukas recalls the many times when, during various musical tours, entering Tina Turner’s room stood in front of 50 of the singer’s wigs, all aligned and hung in perfect order on the wall. «She dyed and sewed each of her wigs herself. She used to say that no one would do the job as well. She would sit on the edge of her bed and you could see her concentrating on needle, thread and scissors, sewing and arranging her beloved wigs. Those were memorable times.” The result was hairstyles so sexy, gritty and rebellious that in 2011 a close friend of Tina Turner, Oprah Winfrey, had a wig made inspired by those of the singer, icon of beauty and unparalleled personality. He loved her so much that he didn’t even take her off in his sleep.
