Defendant Érika de Souza Vieira, 42 years old, did not appear at the hearing scheduled by the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ) for this Tuesday (12). She is accused of taking her uncle Paulo Roberto Braga, 68, to a bank branch when he was dead.
Érika’s trial and hearing were scheduled for September 19 of this year, when the decision that “revoked the accused’s preventive detention” was maintained. This Tuesday’s hearing would be the defendant’s first.
At the hearing held today, six prosecution witnesses were heard. Two other witnesses did not appear. The trial is only expected to continue on February 18, 2025.

Remember the case
Érika de Souza Vieira was arrested by the Civil Police after taking Uncle Paulo, who was dead, to withdraw R$17,000 related to a bank loan, on April 16 of this year.
At the time of the case, the videos went viral on social media. The woman appears in the images carrying the elderly man in a wheelchair and trying to appear as if he were signing a document to make the withdrawal possible.
THE CNN the delegate from the 34th DP, Fábio Luiz da Silva Souza, responsible for the case, said that Érika had tried to take out other loans under her uncle’s name, in addition to trying to buy a cell phone.
The elderly man’s niece became a defendant for attempted fraud and vilification of a corpse.
