Title leads to the wrong conclusion, says Presidency

The Press Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic told CNN that the resources requested by municipalities affected by natural tragedies in Rio Grande do Sul “are guaranteed” and “ready for transfer”.

The secretariat challenged the title of the article published by CNN this Thursday (2), which shows that a third of the funds promised by the federal government for emergency actions in the state, after the extratropical cyclone of September 2023, were not transferred.

According to the secretariat, the title leads to the perception that there had been “delay, forgetfulness or deliberate non-compliance with the commitment”.

In fact, says the secretariat, the municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul that have not yet received the resources need to present justifications, documents and projects for this.

Note from the Press Secretariat

“The title 'Rains in RS: federal government failed to transfer a third of the funds promised in the last tragedy', published this Thursday by CNN Brasil, attributes responsibility to the federal government for the lack of transfer of part of the resources, as if it were the product of delay, forgetfulness or deliberate failure to comply with the commitment.”

“That's not it.

“To facilitate the release of resources, the federal government began accepting work plans with simple photographic evidence and a description of the reconstruction needs caused by disasters.”

“The cities in Rio Grande do Sul that have not yet received the resources just need to present the work plans to the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development. All requested resources are guaranteed and ready for transfer.”

“Since January 2023, R$325 million has been released for civil defense actions in the State of Rio Grande do Sul.”/
