To CNN, Queen of Jordan accuses the West of treating the war in Israel with “double standards”

Queen Rania of Jordan accused Western leaders of having “double standards” when approaching the war between Israel and the radical Islamic group Hamas. He criticized the West for failing to condemn civilian deaths caused by Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip as the conflict threatens to destabilize relations between American and Arab leaders.

Speaking to Christiane Amanpour from CNN In an exclusive interview, Rania said: “Across the Middle East, including in Jordan, we are simply shocked and disillusioned by the world’s reaction to this unfolding catastrophe. In recent weeks, we have seen a blatant double standard in the world.”

“When October 7th happened, the world immediately and unequivocally supported Israel and its right to defend itself and condemned the attack that took place. But what we have seen in the last few weeks, we are seeing silence in the world,” she told CNN .

Israel declared a “complete siege” on the Gaza Strip following the October 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas, which controls the enclave, which killed more than 1,400 people and took more than 200 hostages, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The siege resulted in relentless airstrikes over the densely populated region and a blockade of vital supplies — including food and water — for the entire population of the isolated strip.

“This is the first time in modern history that there is so much human suffering and the world does not even call for a ceasefire,” added Queen Rania. “So the silence is deafening — and for many in our region, it makes the Western world complicit.”

“They are telling us that it is wrong to kill a family, an entire family, at gunpoint, but that it is okay to bomb them to death? I mean, there’s a blatant double standard here,” she said. “It’s just shocking for the Arab world.”
