One of the conditions imposed by Egypt to release the Rafah crossing is that Israel authorizes the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, according to Itamaraty sources involved in negotiations to repatriate Brazilians stranded in Palestinian territory.
For the Egyptians, the increase in basic inputs could prevent a mass flight of Palestinian citizens across the border. In the region, a group of Brazilians waits to cross. Among them is a child injured in an accident.
In addition to the release of humanitarian aid, Egypt wants strict control over the entry of foreigners into the country through Gaza. The country fears an increase in the number of refugees. Security is also highlighted as a fundamental point, as the border region, in the south of Gaza, has suffered bombings.
Brazilian diplomats privately state that negotiations for repatriation remain at a standstill. The Brazilian government sent, on Monday (16), around 300 kilos of medicines and 40 portable water purifiers. Other countries have already made it possible to send inputs to Gaza.
The Itamaraty’s assessment is that Israel is “letting time pass” and is blocking the resolution for the crossing of Brazilians and other foreigners.
A Brazilian child who is in the group that must be repatriated from the Gaza Strip had a shoulder injury and was unable to receive hospital care. The family reported that she was treated and spent well on Monday night (16).
Members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not reveal the child’s age, but stated that she was injured while traveling through Palestinian territory.
