The Tocantins Civil Police arrested, on Tuesday (15), two women suspected of commanding a estelionato scheme involving the federal government program “My House, My Life” in several cities of the state.
The pair was identified as a mother and daughter, 46 and 28, respectively. According to the investigation, they acted with the promise of public real estate that would be released for advance payment. The young woman was the group’s leader and her mother acted in capturing the victims and in the intermediation of payments.
The arrests occurred during Operation Hemera, which refers to the goddess of daylight in Greek mythology. The case was conducted by the 72nd Luzimangues Police Station, Porto Nacional district.
According to police, to give credibility to the scheme, the daughter presented herself as a public servant and used fake documents and images. In some cases, the victims were taken to areas that would supposedly receive the properties, which helped convince about the truth of the false business.
In addition to the false housing promises, the criminals also said they had influence at the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra) and offered lots of public land for payment. After receiving the values, the group disappeared without fulfilling the promised.
The case was discovered after the registration of More than 40 occurrence reports related to the scheme all involving estelionate crimes and assets.
Only at the 72nd Police Station, eight inquiries are underway against the two and other possible members of the gang.
“The performance of the group was structured and recurrent,” said the delegate responsible for the case, Diogo Fonseca da Silveira. “The mentor used the appearance of legality to deceive the victims, with the support of the mother in approaches and financial transactions.”
During the operation, mobile phones, documents and other materials that can help identify new victims and accomplices were seized. The investigations are still ongoing.
The two suspicions were sent to the Palmas Women’s Prison Unit, where they remain available to the court.
