Iran will respond to the European Union’s (EU) “final” text by midnight today, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said, calling on the United States to show flexibility in order to save the 2015 deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.
“We don’t want to reach an agreement that after 40 days, two months or three months will not be implemented on the ground… We told them that they should respect our red lines,” Amirabdolakhian said.
“Specifically, there are three issues… If these three issues are resolved, we can reach an agreement. But failure to revive the agreement will not be the end of the world.”
Amirabdolakhian said that the coming days are very important.
“More talks will be needed if Washington does not show flexibility to resolve the remaining issues… Like Washington, we have our own plan B if the talks fail,” he said.
The EU, as the coordinator of talks between Iran and international powers, said last week it had proposed a “final” text after four days of indirect talks between US and Iranian officials in Vienna.
Washington has said it is ready to quickly reach an agreement to restore the agreement based on the EU’s proposals.
Iranian officials said last week they would convey their “additional views and thoughts” to the EU.
