Barbie, the doll that is one of the most recognizable toys in the world, turns 65 today! The calendar read March 9, 1959 when the first Barbie doll debuted at the American Toy Fair in New York. The iconic 11-inch doll was the country's first mass-produced toy doll with adult features, according to the History Channel. Ruth Handler was the person who came up with the idea for Barbie dolls after seeing her daughter ignore her dolls and play with paper dolls meant for grown women.
