Tokyo and Beijing have new Michelin-starred restaurants

In October, two major Asian capitals received new restaurant reviews from the Michelin Guide . The 2025 editions were revealed for Tokyo capital of Japan, and to Beijing capital of China.

The 18th edition of the guide dedicated to Tokyo has 170 starred restaurants and 110 restaurants on the Bib Gourmand list. The news comes from the three stars of the Sézanne which previously had two, and the elevation of the Tempura Motoyoshi to two stars. In total, 13 new restaurants received the first star.

In Beijing, the 2025 edition of the guide includes 33 starred restaurants and 21 Bib Gourmand. In total, one restaurant was upgraded to two stars and three new establishments have a Michelin star.

Star-studded restaurants in Tokyo

Located inside the Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi, the restaurant Sézanne was elevated to three Michelin stars . This year, it had already been voted the Best Restaurant in Asia by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.

The restaurant is an ode to French cuisine with modern touches by the executive chef. Daniel Calvert . The restaurant, which is located on the seventh floor of the hotel, works with seasonal tasting menus that mix French ingredients with Japanese influences.

The restaurant received the first star in 2022, the second in 2023 and now displays the maximum distinction. With this, Tokyo now has, in total, 12 restaurants with three Michelin stars.

Another new feature is the elevation of the restaurant Tempura Motoyoshi for two stars. Piloted by the chef Kazuhito Motoyoshi which uses innovative techniques for tempura, the location is in Shibuya and seats nine diners at the counter. The restaurant works with an omakase menu in two shifts at dinner.

In terms of sustainability, the Daigo joined the list of green star restaurants in Tokyo. The place, which already has a Michelin star, specializes in Shojin cuisine, traditional Japanese vegetarian cuisine, and serves set menus.

In addition to these establishments, 13 new restaurants join the one-star Michelin family in Tokyo. They are:

  • Yotsuya Minemura

Star restaurants in Beijing

In Beijing, the big news is the Lu Shang Lu elevated to two Michelin stars. The restaurant, which is located in the Sunshine Financial Center skyscraper area, specializes in cuisine from Shandong Province, with a focus on Confucian cuisine, with sea cucumber and seafood shipped daily from the Jiaodong Peninsula.

The house has the chef behind it Haoquan Wang and the guide recommends the 45-day-old roast duck served with caviar, shrimp crackers and Shandong pancakes.

The highlight still goes to the three new restaurants that now boast a Michelin star . They are: French Blackswan the European The George and the Cantonese restaurant The House of Dynasties .

Beijing has two restaurants with three Michelin stars, which maintained their distinction in this new edition. They are the Xin Rong Ji (Xinyuan South Road), focusing on Taizhou cuisine and East China Sea fish; and the Chao Shang Chao (Chaoyang), which makes versions of classics from the Chaozhou region.
