The war in Ukraine shows that Western dominance is coming to an end as China gains superpower status in partnership with Russia in one of the most significant turning points for centuries, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said.
The world, Blair declared, was at a turning point in history comparable to the end of World War II or the collapse of the Soviet Union: but this time the West is clearly not on the rise.
“We are coming to the end of the political and economic dominance of the West,” Blair said in a lecture titled “After Ukraine – What are the lessons now for Western leadership?”, according to the text of the speech at a forum in Ditchley Park, west of London.
“The world is going to have at least two poles and possibly many poles,” Blair said. “The biggest geopolitical change of this century will come from China, not Russia.”
