Top for its money: Xiaomi overtook Apple and Samsung in smartphone sales growth

The global smartphone market is gradually recovering from the coronavirus pandemic, and Xiaomi during this period feels very confident. For example, the analytical company Strategy Analytics previously reported that the manufacturer confidently took the third place in the world top in terms of smartphone sales for the first quarter of 2021, lagging behind Apple’s indicators by only one percent. However, a new report from another company shows that in fact, the Chinese giant is doing even better than the world’s leaders – in terms of sales growth, Xiaomi has already overtaken Apple and Samsung.

Canalys has published a fresh report on the global smartphone market for the first quarter of 2021, which indicates that Xiaomi has the best quarter in the entire history of the brand, with a 62% increase in smartphone sales compared to the previous year. Thanks to such a rapid development, the Chinese giant confidently took the third place in the number of smartphones sold – Xiaomi accounts for 14% of the world market or 49 million gadgets shipped. Apple, which is in second place, has 15% of the global market and 52.4 million smartphones sold.

That is, at the moment, the gap between Xiaomi and Apple is extremely small, and with a high degree of probability analysts predict that in the second financial quarter of 2021, the Chinese manufacturer may well bypass Apple in terms of the volume of devices sold. After all, while Xiaomi is showing an increase of 62% compared to the previous year, Apple’s figure was only 41%, and Samsung’s situation is even worse – the Korean manufacturer showed an increase of only 21%. Even Oppo, which has released only a few striking releases lately, has seen sales growth of 60% year over year.
