Top iPhone maker shuts down two factories at once due to covid restrictions

Foxconn, Taiwan’s largest electronics maker, has suspended production at two of its factories in the city of Kunshan in east China’s Jiangsu province, according to the South China Morning Post.

Local media confirmed this morning that the shutdown was due to quarantine restrictions due to COVID-19. Production was halted after cases of coronavirus infection were detected on the territory of enterprises. As a result, the dormitories where the workers lived were closed.

Foxconn is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer and fills orders for Apple and many other companies. Foxconn’s main manufacturing facilities are located in mainland Chinese cities.

The fears of observers were confirmed: earlier, due to covid restrictions in Shanghai, the three largest factories (Pegatron, Quanta and Compal), which assemble devices for Apple, were stopped. Orders were redirected to Foxconn production lines. But even then there were suggestions that the Foxconn factories could stop.
