Top U.S. and Chinese diplomats could meet in Alaska

As the world’s two largest economies seek to stabilize their relations under the presidency of Joe Biden, the Top U.S. and Chinese diplomats are in talks to meet in Alaska, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on Wednesday.

The proposed meeting in Anchorage would include US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi, the Hong Kong-based newspaper reported, citing a person briefed on the discussions. The talks could also include China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, ”the newspaper reported.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Monday: “The United States has a greater responsibility to take the initiative in terms of taking action.”

Commenting on a possible meeting between the United States and China, Global Times editor-in-chief Hu Xijin tweeted: “The United States has a greater responsibility to take the initiative in terms of action.”
